Russia's September intake is open, and for a lot of students from Bangladesh it removes the three things that usually stop an application before it starts: IELTS, a bank statement and a study gap. Each of those is worth reading carefully, because none of them is an unconditional promise.
No IELTS — for eligible programs
Many Russian universities and programs do not ask for IELTS. Many are taught in English, so you can complete your studies without knowing Russian at the start and pick up the language while you are there. What counts as eligible is decided by the university and the program, not in advance. The useful order is therefore: choose the program, then check its requirement — rather than assume either way.
Bank statement and study gaps
In most cases a bank statement or blocked account is not required for admission. Long study gaps are accepted by many universities, depending on the applicant's profile. Both of those are in most cases rather than always, and both are the university's decision. Where they do apply, they take months of preparation out of the process.
What it costs
- Tuition — set by each university and varying by program; a regional university and a Moscow one are not in the same bracket
- Living — driven mostly by the city, and regional cities such as Kazan, Kursk and Volgograd sit well below Moscow
- Hostel — most state universities provide hostel accommodation, at a rate the university sets
Every one of those depends on which university you pick, which is why a single figure printed on a website is either out of date or was never true for your case. The timeline
There is a main intake in the autumn and a smaller one in the spring, and September is the one most students from Bangladesh aim at. The step that sets the pace is the invitation letter, which the university issues once your documents are complete and which takes weeks rather than days. Working backwards from a September start, that means the file wants to be moving well before the summer. The exact dates are the university's to set and they move from year to year, so ask us for the current calendar for your university rather than working from last year's.
Documents
The list is short: academic certificates and transcripts, a valid passport, a passport-size photograph, and anything else the specific university asks for. Short does not mean casual — the same consistency rules apply as anywhere else, and names and dates should match across every page.
Two scholarship routes
Two routes are worth knowing about. The Russian government quota is an annual scholarship allocation for international students, applied for through the official portal; how many places are open to Bangladesh, what they cover and when the call closes are all set fresh for each year. The Open Doors Olympiad is a competition rather than an application — winners are admitted on the strength of the result. Both run on the Russian side's calendar, and both reward finding out the current call's dates early rather than late.
Working, and afterwards
Whether you can work while studying, and on what conditions, is decided by Russian law and by your university's own rules — treat any blanket promise on that as a warning sign, and get the current position confirmed before you count on the income. Russian degrees are widely recognized internationally. What a specific degree lets you practice in a specific country afterwards is a question for that country's own regulator, and it is worth answering before you choose the program rather than after you graduate.
